Indian summers are no doubt humid and hot. But this doesn’t mean you can’t visit India during summer. In reality, summer is also the best time to visit India. Post summers are the monsoons and frequent rains may hinder commuting.
We have made it easier for you to choose a Holiday destination by listing the places you can visit during this season for a pleasant experience.
1. Munnar, Kerala
Kerala is the southernmost state in India and it is here that the great Indian monsoon begins. These early monsoon winds keeps the summers cooler for a longer duration and this is especially true in Munnar.
Munnar is the tea and spice hub in Kerala. As soon as the rains arrive, the landscape changes into a green spectacle and this makes it a beautiful sight for all visitors to cherish. The hilly backdrops add further to the charm of the place. Perfect for those looking to spend some quiet time amidst the great green valleys of Kerala.
2. Cherrapunjee, Meghalaya
Cherrapunjee is the second wettest place on earth (after Mawsynram, an 8-hour drive from here) and the second on my list for travelers to India. If you love rich green forest areas and trekking is of interest to you, then this is the place to be at. Once you are here do not miss out on tasting the famous Meghalaya Tea.
This tea is lightly flavored but with a gorgeous unique aroma that is so rare to find among any other tea in the world. Double decker tree houses are a great option for holidaymakers to stay in. This is worth the experience especially during the start of monsoon.
3. Agumbe, Karnataka
Agumbe is a splendid location in Karnataka. Agumbe is associated with rainforest conservation efforts, documentation of medicinal plants, tourism (trekking and photography), power generation through hydroelectric and promotion of cottage industry.
Agumbe has many beautiful natural waterfalls, ponds and lakes. The sight of the waterfalls are very pleasing to the eyes and the music of nature is at its best while listening to the sound of water falling from such a great height. The names of a few famous falls are Barkana Falls, Onake Abbi Falls and Jogigundi Falls.
The sight of the falls, ponds and lakes in a pristine atmosphere and colorful birds flying around from the surrounding rainforests makes the sight enchanting.
Malgudi Days (1985) is a television serial based on novels written by R. K. Narayan. Many episodes were filmed in Agumbe.
4. Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu
One of the most famous hill station in Tamil Nadu is Kodaikanal. The name “Kodaikanal” in the local language Tamil means “The Gift of the Forest”. It is a place to visit during summers as well as monsoon because of the high elevation of the city and pleasant climatic condition. Clouds cover the hilltops most of the time although rainfalls are rare until the monsoon.
A few must visit places are Kodaikanal Lake, Bryant Park, Coaker’s Walk, Bear Shola Falls, Shembaganur Museum of Natural History, Pillar Rocks, Guna caves, Silver Cascade, Dolphin’s Nose, Kurinji Andavar Murugan temple and Berijam Lake.
5. Lahaul-Spiti valley, Himachal Pradesh
Lahaul-Spiti Valley consists of the two formerly separate districts of Lahaul and Spiti. The Valley is frugally inhabited and still in the most pristine form with least human involvement. For those looking for an escapade, this is an ideal place. You can try Skiing and Yak Trek on wildlife trails.
The Lahaul-Spiti Valley is connected to the rest of the world through the Leh-Manali highway. This gorgeous valley is however inaccessible during winters due to abundant snowfall.
